Our story so far…

Back in 2002, we formed Direct Commercial with a team of 9 people working out of a tiny office round the corner from Chelmsford train station. Fast forward to today and we’re writing over £235 million in gross premium and insure over 1 in 9 trucks on UK roads.

So, how did we do it? In a nutshell, we specialised the hell out of it!

Our team (still in Chelmsford, but now in a couple of big offices of our own) live and breathe fleet. We happily take on industries the others run scared from – whether that’s haulage, logistics, courier or even waste.

Our secret is, well, not a secret… It’s simple. Every day we put ourselves in the shoes of fleet owners and think about what they need from an insurer. That’s lead to us becoming underwriters*, taking claims handling in house, and offering our own financing solutions.

*technically, we’re a motor MGA, working in partnership with Great Lakes Insurance (UK) Ltd – part of the global Munich Re group, with an A+ A.M. Best rating.

Leadership

Our CEO, Phil Cunningham, (who actually comes from a family of underwriters specialising in commercial motor insurance!) and the rest of the Leadership Team all share the same passion. Namely, to drive the talented DCL team forward, ensuring we always go the extra mile to bring reliable, innovative solutions to our brokers and policyholders. Each individual brings vast experience, insights and skills – not to mention some unique personality – to the table…
