Finding the Right Solution to Protect Our Policyholder
Our approach to claims is simple: protect our policyholders and secure fair, balanced outcomes. In this case, thoughtful coordination and smart decision making enabled our team to manage a challenging set of circumstances smoothly - delivering a £32,397.33 saving for our policyholder.
Understanding the Challenge
The claim arose when our policyholder's vehicle reversed into an electricity meter housing structure, leading to a £106,200 claim.
The surveyor attended the site and confirmed that while the electricity meter itself was still functioning, the housing around it had been severely damaged and required replacement.
However, the property operates as a daycare centre and a football club, meaning turning off the electricity would cause major disruption. Options such as temporary generators were explored, but the additional costs made them unviable.
Crafting a Cost Controlled Solution
To minimise disruption and avoid unnecessary expense, we developed a practical, cost-effective plan:
- Work took place on weekdays only, avoiding busy weekends
- Temporary heaters were offered during short power off periods
- A new housing structure was built next to the original, allowing electricity to remain on until the final switch
This approach ensured full operational continuity and prevented a potential £72,000 Business Interruption claim across the four-week project.
As the property is a business address, VAT was charged to the Third Party, who could reclaim it through their annual tax return.
The Results
The project ran smoothly, thanks to strong communication and onsite coordination, resulting in a saving of £32,397.33 for our policyholder.
The Third Party was delighted: “Great job by all involved…”
