After our fantastic win of ‘MGA of the Year’ at the BIA 2019, we are ecstatic to be returning in 2020 for consideration in two different categories, ‘Investing in the Profession/Training Award’ and ‘Claims Initiative of the Year – Insurer’.
The Profession/Training Award entry is centred on the DCL Academy which was founded nearly three years ago to help futureproof staffing requirements for the business as it continues to grow. At the last intake in October 2019, a total of 24 new apprentices joined the business split between claims and underwriting – a number increased by threefold since the project began. Helen Cunningham, Head of HR said, ‘This shortlisting is really exciting news; it is our view that there is no better way for young people to develop their career in insurance from an early age than through schemes such as ours. We needed bright minds that would be receptive to challenges and able to learn core insurance knowledge whilst relishing the opportunity to learn real life insurance skills. The Academy balances ‘on the job’ training with the opportunity to gain professional qualifications.’
The second shortlisting, Claims Initiative of the Year, focusses on the work done by the business to mitigate the incurred position on Property Damage Claims. Carl Cripps, Head of Claims said ‘The Property Damage element of a claim is often seen as inevitable but with some fantastic dashcam footage so often available to us and some hard work from the claims team, big savings can be achieved, especially when assisted by early direct reporting. I am really proud of the systems we have built to try and mitigate costs and improve on our policyholders’ incurred positions’. The claims team was only recently formed in 2017 having previously used external suppliers.
DCL continue to evolve and hope that through innovation the business can continue to grow sustainably as it has done now for more than 18 years.’
